I have gained years of experience working alongside an Artisan or performing the work of an Artisan, but never did any formal training to qualify. Is there a possibility that I could qualify as an Artisan now? If so, how would I go about this?

Section 28 certification involves the Recognition of Prior Learning. If you want to write the Trade Test but have not completed any formal apprenticeship, you will need to follow the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route. You will need to submit a complete Portfolio of Evidence (POE) presenting proof of skills acquired. You will need to be formally assessed by an independent assessor regarding knowledge and skills both in practice and in theory. ATI can assist with this in order to identify the gaps as well as the training required to remedy this. A competency certification will then be produces by ATI for each area. Thereafter a Section 26D Trade Test may be applied for.
